Superprof is a huge global directory of tutors and instructors, covering everything from maths to music to yoga. It works very differently from iTutorOnline, so if you are choosing between the two, it helps to understand how each one makes money and what that means for you.
How Superprof works
Superprof is a listings platform. Tutors create a profile, and students browse and search to find someone who suits them. The model has two parts that catch people out:
- The Student Pass. To actually message and connect with tutors, students pay for a Student Pass, commonly priced around €40 to €49. It is a recurring subscription that gives you access to contact tutors, and it does not include any lesson costs. Some users have been surprised by the auto-renewal, so it is worth reading the terms.
- Tutor commission depends on payment method. If a tutor takes payment directly from the student off-platform, Superprof takes nothing. If lessons are paid through Superprof's system, the tutor is charged roughly a 10% service fee.
Superprof does verify tutors before publishing profiles, asking for ID, qualifications, and a verified email and phone number. The catalogue is enormous, which is its main draw.
How iTutorOnline works
iTutorOnline does not charge you a pass just to talk to a tutor. You can browse, message, and book without paying for access first.
- No subscription to contact anyone. There is no Student Pass and no recurring access fee. You pay for lessons, and that is it.
- Flat 15% tutor commission. Tutors keep 85%, and the same rules apply to everyone regardless of how they take payment. The €5 per hour platform fee is already baked into the price you see.
- Verified tutors with safe payments. Every tutor passes ID and age verification, with optional diploma verification. Payments run through EU-regulated processing, and lessons stay on the platform in an encrypted video room with a revisitable whiteboard.
Who each platform is best for
Superprof is a good fit if you want the widest possible directory across academic and hobby subjects, and you do not mind paying a pass to unlock contact. Its scale is genuinely impressive.
iTutorOnline is the better fit if you would rather not pay just to send a message, you want a low and consistent commission, and you want the reassurance that every tutor has been verified.

The bottom line
Superprof's strength is breadth. iTutorOnline's strength is trust and value: verified tutors, no access fee, a low flat commission, and a price that does not change at checkout. If paying a subscription just to reach a tutor feels backwards to you, that alone may make the decision.
